LIVE MUSIC EVENT – Welsh Folk group Cynefin<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Friday 13th of November 2026 at 7.30pm<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Llanwrtyd and District Heritage & Arts Centre is please to announce a performance by Welsh Folk group Cynefin<\/strong><\/em> on Friday 13 th of November at 7.30pm. The critically acclaimed Welsh folk project of Ceredigion-based singer, historian and cultural researcher, Owen Shiers<\/strong><\/em>, Cynefin weaves the songs, stories and traditions of rural Wales into a powerful contemporary sound.<\/p>\n

Tickets are \u00a312 each and are on sale at the Heritage & Arts Centre and from the Neuadd Arms Hotel, Llanwrtyd. In addition for the first time with this event, tickets can also be purchased online at Eventbrite using the link below. (online booking fee applies).<\/p>\n

Irfon Valley Artists and Artisans Return for September Exhibition<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Throughout September<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Following a summer of diverse and inspiring exhibitions, Llanwrtyd Heritage & Arts Centre welcomes back the Irfon Valley Artists and Artisans<\/strong> for its September exhibition. The group brings together a talented collection of artists and makers from across the countryside between the Cambrian Mountains and the Epynt, stretching from the Sugar Loaf through Beulah, Garth and Cilmeri.<\/p>\n

The exhibition provides an opportunity to see the remarkable breadth of creative work being produced in this beautiful part of mid-Wales. Members work in a wide variety of media, including watercolour, oil and acrylic painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, stained glass and textiles. While many take inspiration from the hills, valleys, rivers, streams, fields and woodland around them, others look further afield for their ideas and inspiration.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s exhibition features work by a particularly varied group of artists and artisans.
Simon H Lilly<\/strong> presents pieces from his extensive A Welsh Dreaming series,<\/strong><\/em> created using
layered photographs to produce evocative and imaginative images.<\/p>\n

Troed Y Rhiw Cimmer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Katie Fiszman<\/strong> explores Islamic geometric compositions alongside flowing biomorphic patterns.<\/p>\n

Paul Rickard<\/strong>, whose work has featured in previous exhibitions at the Centre, draws on his long-standing interest in archaeology to create original relief, intaglio and lithographic prints.<\/p>\n

Photography is represented by Sarah Mason<\/strong>, whose long-standing interest in the medium
now focuses on the landscapes of mid-Wales, and Andrew Dally<\/strong>, whose photographs of wild places are inspired by the landscape, history and literature of the region.<\/p>\n

The surrounding countryside is also central to the work of Jon Hather<\/strong>, whose watercolours
capture the peaceful valleys, hills and moorland through the changing seasons, and David<\/strong>
Wetner<\/strong>, who paints landscapes and nature subjects in oils, often using palette knives and
working en plein air in the mid-Wales hills.<\/p>\n

There are also some fascinating and more unusual approaches to art. Mandi Baykaa Murry<\/strong>
creates delicate paintings on naturally moulted feathers, inspired by quiet encounters with
birds, while Peter Barnett<\/strong> produces dramatic wildlife scenes in oils.<\/p>\n

Completing the exhibition are the extraordinary stained-glass work of Jeff Pine<\/strong> and Linda<\/strong>
Pace Avery<\/strong>, alongside ceramics by Wendy Chamberlain<\/strong> and Jonathan Burton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Together, the artists offer a colourful celebration of the creativity, character and inspiration to be found in the Irfon Valley and its surrounding landscape.<\/p>\n

\u2018Laura Ashley\u2019 – A talk on the history of the international brand that started in the heart of Mid Wales<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Tuesday, 20th October 2026 7 pm<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Merthyr Tydfil born Laura Ashley<\/strong> ( 1925 \u2013 1985) was a Welsh fashion designer and businesswoman, who founded the eponymous fashion retailer. She originally made furnishing materials in the 1950s, expanding the business into clothing design and manufacture in the 1960s and she opened her first shop at 35 Maengwyn Street, Machynlleth, Powys, in 1961.\u00a0 The Laura Ashley style is characterised by Romantic designs \u2013 often with a 19th-century rural feel \u2013 and the use of natural fabrics.<\/p>\n

Llanwrtyd Wells Heritage & Arts Centres’ creation was in part made possible with funding received from\u00a0The Ashley Family Foundation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Long time enthusiast and historian of the Laura Ashley brand, Josephine Jones<\/strong>, will describe the development and many local connections of this fashion and home decor phenomenon, including products made here in Llanwrtyd.<\/p>\n
