A first for the Heritage Centre

Throughout November til December 7th 2024

Visitors to the gallery throughout November will be immersed in a sonic and visual experience achieved through the use of headsets as they are taken on a multisensory journey through the enchanting hills of Maldwyn and the mid Wales countryside.

Artist, Erin Hughes has collaborated with the Will Barnes Quartet to provide this multi-faceted experience where her work, showcasing her remarkable talent using original, marble paper to produce collages inspired by nature and the Quartet’s latest album “Source of the Severn”, results in the vibrant exhibition entitled ‘Where We Are”.

Source of the Severn

Erin lives and works in mid Wales having studied at the Ruskin School of Art at Oxford University and received an MA from the Royal College of Art. She has exhibited extensively in Wales and England, as well as in Berlin, Tokyo and Athens. In addition to her ongoing collaboration with the Will Barnes Quartet Erin co-founded artist-run projects Contemporary Collaborations and Cypher BILLBOARD.

This year the Llanwrtyd & District Heritage and Arts Centre will be showcasing how other countries celebrate with their own Festivals of Light at their Christmas Drop-in on

Saturday 7 th December 10am to 4pm.

Visitors will be welcomed with a free sherry and mince pie into the Centre which will be filled with lights and displays representing how Sweden, India, China and Germany celebrate the festive season in addition to our own traditional Christmas display.

There will be themed activities for the children, a Tree of Teddies competition, raffle, Christmas fayre and presents on sale and the galleries will be open for viewing and the purchase of that special gift.

Organised to coincide with the Llanwrtyd Christmas Tree Festival that is held at St James’ Church this event makes a visit to the town a great start to the Christmas festivities.
